Many different types of mothers.

To those who gave birth this year to their first child—we celebrate with you.
To those who lost a child this year – we mourn with you.

To those who are in the trenches with little ones every day and wear the badge of food stains – we appreciate you.
To those who experienced loss through miscarriage, failed adoptions, or running away—we mourn with you.

To those who walk the hard path of infertility, fraught with pokes, prods, tears, and disappointment – we walk with you. Forgive us when we say foolish things. We don’t mean to make this harder than it is.

To those who have chosen adoption for your child - we admire you and your strength and we cry bittersweet tears with you.

To those who share their motherhood with another - we are grateful for your willingness and sacrifice.

To those who are foster moms, mentor moms, and spiritual moms – we need you.
To those who have warm and close relationships with your children – we celebrate with you.

To those who step-parent – we walk with you on these complex paths.
To those who envisioned lavishing love on grandchildren -yet that dream is not to be, we grieve with you.

To those who have disappointment, heart ache, and distance with your children – we sit with you.
To those who lost their mothers this year – we grieve and remember her with you.
To those who experienced abuse at the hands of your own mother – we acknowledge your experience.

To those who lived through driving tests, medical tests, and the overall testing of motherhood – we are better for having you in our midst.
To those who have aborted children – we remember them and you on this day. We respect your choice.
To those who are single and long to be married and mothering your own children – we mourn that life has not turned out the way you longed for it to be.

To those who will have emptier nests in the upcoming year – we grieve and rejoice with you.

To those with empty nests who struggle to adjust and eventually do- we know you miss hearing your children's voices and we send you hugs and hope for new adventures to come your way.

To those who are pregnant with new life, both expected and surprising –we anticipate with you.

And to those who put "the needs of their child above the wants of their heart" - we honor you.                                                             Skye Hardwick

This Mother’s Day, we walk with you.
Mothering is not for the faint of heart and we have real warriors in our midst.
We remember you.

Motherhood is...

I imagine that motherhood [for most] is a responsibility like no other and a privilege not to be taken lightly. I presume that motherhood is a daily activity- a trial and error and trial, again and again. Each day is a new beginning, yet a continuation of the one before. A constant hum of love, learning, regret, more love, understanding, evolving, nurturing, more love, joy, sorrow, smiles, tears, laughs, pain, bliss, frustration, peace, and more love. A process that never ends, a constant refiners fire, an adventure with great rewards, and unknown mysteries around every corner.

For me, motherhood is a culmination of all the possible emotions and experiences from a lifetime of raising children, all rolled into one intense moment, one moment so emotionally raw, tender, profound and exquisite, that there are no written words for me to ever accurately describe it. That bittersweet moment of ultimate motherhood, when I placed my child into the open loving arms of his parents.

Some call the choice to place a child for adoption heroic, some call it sacrifice, some call it tragic, some call it a mistake, some call it a miracle, some call it a gift, some call it love…

I now call it ‘motherlove’.

As a mother, I took my responsibility very seriously; I understood what was best for my child and with all my mothering love, I chose accordingly.

For me, that’s what ‘motherhood’ is.

Over the years I have been able to share a motherhood with another woman- my mother partner. It is a unique bond that few get to share, a unique love that few get to foster, and a treasured experience that few ever get to live. How blessed we are, blessed by motherhood; motherlove.

who will win in YOUR heart?

A Native American grandmother was talking to her grandson about how she felt.

She said, " I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart.

One wolf is vengeful, angry, and violent.

The other wolf is loving and compassionate."

The grandson asked her,

"Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?"

The grandmother answered,

"The one I feed."

A Sacred Exhange

I just wanted to share a quote!

We look at adoption as a very sacred exchange. It was not done lightly on either side. I would dedicate my life to this child.
-Jamie Lee Curtis

I think that this is so true!!!
Adoption is very sacred for everyone!!
Both parties love that child more then anything in the world!

It is important that we have respect for the adoptive couple and the child,
as well as ourselves- as birthmothers.

Everyone puts their emotions on the line.
It is a time to be sensitive, kind, and compassionate.
It is a time to think of everyone involved.

More to post later! I have a great post coming up!!

Hardest for Me

I'd start this out saying that "my heart is breaking",
but that wouldn’t truly convey the depth of my feeling...
it’s no use concealing the things i don’t know how to say.

You’ll be leaving and I’ll be grieving a dream that never will be...
its a hard test when what’s best for you is hardest for me.

When this decision made such a revision in plans I held tightly before,
My fear was that it wasn’t clear to me~~
giving you up was really giving you more...
cuz anyone loving you more than I already do was hard to believe!!
It’s a hard test when what’s really best for you is hardest for me.

It’s a taste of the bitter that lets us know better why ONE suffered in Gethsemane.
It’s a hard test when what’s best for you is hardest for me.

The song "Hardest For Me" is by Michael Mclean and can be found on the CD "The Other Side of Sorrow" along with several other adoption songs.

lose sight

One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a long time.
--- Unknown

Take a minute to step back and look at the full picture!

If you are only focusing on how you feel,
then you are in the wrong place to make a decision.

When you can step back and "lose sight of the shore" and think about your baby, then you can make a good decision. Research everything on all sides of the spectrum. "You" ended when you got pregnant. Your baby and his/her happiness should be your #1 top priority now.

Make a decision based on that!
I love you all!! Jessa
